BEHAVIOUR POLICY

At Oakway Infant School we expect good behaviour from all children at all times.  This policy outlines the rewards, warnings and consequences that form the basis of our policy. The aim of the policy is to have a simple, yet effective system which guides children to:

  • Take responsibility for their actions
  • Show respect for other individuals as well as themselves
  • Respect their environment
  • Develop a sense of belonging in a safe and caring place
  • Be proud of themselves and their school
  • Begin to understand how they are part of the community

All staff, children and parents will be consulted each year regarding the content of the policy.

This policy will be shared with parents each year.

At Oakway Infant School we have a simple set of school values which apply to all areas of the school, including the classrooms, hall, playground, swimming pool, corridors and on outside visits.

All staff are expected to encourage the children to follow the school values and follow this policy if the values are not being demonstrated.  All staff are expected to have high expectations of all children.

Rewards

Personal

Children are rewarded for good behaviour as much as possible.  Children can be rewarded by all staff with stickers, team points and tokens.

Team Points

Each child is part of a school team – Red Rockets, Purple Planes, Green Go-Karts, Yellow Yachts, Blue Bikes.  Team points can be given out for good behaviour and when a stamp is given.  These are collected in the classrooms.  When the team has 10 team points they can be added to the Team Point Chart in the hall.  The team with the most team points at the end of each term will be rewarded by the head teacher.

Warnings

When a child breaks one of the school values an adult will remind them of the rule, referring to the SMILE values.  Their name will be written on the warning face on the behaviour chart.

Consequences

Following a warning

When a child breaks one of the SMILE values after they have been reminded of the value by an adult their name will be written on the sad face on the behaviour chart.  As a consequence they may receive any or all of the consequences: No stickers; no team points; missing playtimes; go to the head teacher’s office; parents informed. All behaviour that reaches the consequence stage will be recorded in the behaviour log book.

Serious behaviour

Some behaviour is deemed more serious and therefore has a greater consequence.  These include racism, bullying, stealing, swearing and hurting others.  Any child displaying behaviour of this kind will be sent straight to the senior leadership team (Head teacher, Deputy Head teacher, Assistant Head teacher, Inclusion Manager).  Their behaviour will be noted in the school log book and as a consequence they will spend time with the senior leadership team discussing their behaviour.  Parents will be informed by letter of the reason and we will ask they remind the child that the behaviour is unacceptable.  Incidents of racism will be reported to the Local Authority.

It is the responsibility of all staff to ensure this policy is followed at all times.  The main aim of this policy is to improve the ethos of the school and create a happy and caring environment for all children.
